A Look Back at the Dominos Student Loan Pizza Program

Jan 3, 2025

The Dominos Student Loan Pizza program (officially Domino’s Emergency Pizzas for Student Loans) was a limited promotional campaign launched by Domino’s Pizza Inc. in 2023. This initiative was included in Domino’s broader Emergency Pizzas program. Targeted at anyone with student debt, the campaign aimed to deliver $1 million worth of free pizzas across the US.

This article explains Domino’s program, exploring its aim, duration, and application process.

Background

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Federal Government paused student loan payments for millions of Americans. The pause, lasting over three years, was scheduled to conclude in the fall of 2023, aligning with the start of Domino’s free pizza initiative.

According to Kate Trumbull, Domino’s senior vice president and chief brand officer, the company wanted to do something nice for customers:

“Student loan payments have resumed for millions of Americans, and we wanted to help in our own little way by using the power of pizza to do something nice for our customers… When life gives you loans, Domino’s gives you free pizza!”

Domino’s announced the initiative via a press release on the 25th of October 2023.

How Domino’s Emergency Pizzas Program Worked

Here’s how the free emergency pizza promotion for student loans worked:

Duration

From October 25th, 2023, customers who began repaying their student loans could apply to win one free medium-sized two-topping pizza. The promotion continued until all free promo codes, amounting to $1 million in pizzas, were claimed. By some estimates, Domino’s would give away 67,205 free pizzas.

Application Process

Domino’s posted the application process for its limited student loans program on its website. The steps eligible customers were instructed to take to apply are as follows:

  • “Visit dominos.com/student-loans.
  • Apply for a free Emergency Pizza for Student Loans.
  • Customers must verify the email address they provide.
  • If codes are available on that day, Domino’s will send customers an email with the free pizza code, which they can redeem on their next online carryout or delivery order placed within the next 30 days.
  • To redeem the free pizza code for a delivery order, the customer must meet the store’s delivery minimum requirements.”

If customers could not secure a free pizza code one day, they had the opportunity to apply again the following day at midnight Eastern time.
